A Smart City will have a Special Economic Zone, an International Education Zone, Integrated Townships, Entertainment Zone, Hotels including a Convention Centre, an International Techno Park, Software Technology Parks of India units, Shopping Malls, and Service Units.
Navi Mumbai South (Panvel belt) is the focus area for development of Smart Cities in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This smart city belt with modern infrastructure will become the most sought after destination after the development of proposed International Airport, Trans Harbour Link, Multi Modal Corridor, Expansion of JNPT Port and with large logistic base around it and the Railway Junction.
CIDCO has been designated to develop smart city in the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), which is approx 338 Sq Km of area around proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The development plan for the first phase comprising of 23 villages has been approved for implementation.
The Maharashtra state government has designated MSRDC as SPA (Special Planning Authority) to develop smart city along the Mumbai- Pune expressway corridor between Panvel and Khopoli. ‘Rainbow County – The Defence Enclave’ forms part of the proposed smart city by MSRDC.
